Lindsay Sterk, Artistic Director & Owner
Tap, Musical Theatre and Broadway Jazz
An accomplished dancer, singer and actor, Lindsay has performed and taught throughout Canada. As an adjudicator he has worked with the N.I.Festival of Performing Arts, Pacific West Festival, Danceworks Victoria, Chilliwack and Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts. Teaching credits include Harbour Dance Centre, Van Tap Dance Society, Capilano College and several other West Coast studios.
Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Music (Voice Performance) and Diploma in Theatre Arts. He has studied tap intensively and in masterclasses with Brenda Bufalino, Dianne Walker, Heather Cornell, Roxane Butterfly, Lane Alexander, Cindy Kerr, Germaine Salsberg, Jim Hibbard and Lisa Hopkins. Lindsay’s musical theatre credits include roles with the Arts Club, Showcase Festival, Chemainus Theatre Festival, Gateway Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, Pangaea Arts, Modern Baroque Opera, Ophidian, Pacific Opera Victoria, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Theatre Calgary, Citadel Theatre, Stage West and the Charlottetown Festival.
More recent performances include “Hero” tapper in the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies and Don Lockwood in Singin’ in the Rain for Theatre Under the Stars and he is a regular soloist for tap events featuring Canadian artists.
In 2015, Lindsay was awarded the West Coast Tap Collective's Teacher Scholarship which took him to New York City to study at the Manhattan Tap Intensive with Heather Cornell. Lindsay is co-artistic director for CYMC's Musical Theatre Program where he has choreographed many musicals including Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek the Musical and Les Miserables. Lindsay has also choreographed 3 seasons with the Yellowpoint Christmas Spectacular.
Ballet, Pre-Pointe/Pointe, Ballet Contemporary
Christy was born on Hornby Island and has danced for over 17 years. Her training has taken her from the Courtenay School of Dance, to the Alberta Ballet School and Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. She spent the last 5 years traveling in Asia and Africa where she taught movement to children living in poor communities. “One of the most incredible things I have learned about dance is that no matter where you go, or what your dialect, dance is always a common language.” Christy worked as a registered massage therapist prior to moving back to the island. Her extensive knowledge of anatomy and understanding of the benefits of movement is reflected in her dancing and instructing.
Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Preschool Programs
Candice is a triple threat with over 15 years of performance and teaching experience under her belt. She holds a BFA in drama from the University of Alberta and uses the training she received to bring the theatrical element of storytelling into her choreography. Her students have been commended for their technique and their commitment to characterization within their movement. She has won several awards for her choreography including her pieces, most recently Platform 9. Candice is also an accomplished playwright, having won an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for her work on the piece Change Room. When she’s not at the dance studio, Candice is playing her favourite role to date; mom to daughter Zenya.
Victoria Hanaway, PDTD, RAD, RTS
Ballet, RAD Ballet Exam Program, Ballet Contemporary
Born in England Victoria trained at the Royal Ballet School and Elmhurst Ballet School graduating with a National Diploma in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance. During this time she also performed with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet and had several contemporary roles created for her by choreographer Andre de Villiers. Also trained in flamenco dance she was asked to attend many festivals and master classes by Sheryl Wexler, head of the Spanish Dance Society.
Victoria’s career then took her to Paris to dance at the Bal au Moulin Rouge before joining their touring company which took her all over the world performing in Tokyo, Germany, Austria, Greece, Brazil where she performed in the Rio Carnival, TV performances and many more.
Victoria then furthered her training in aerial skills focusing on aerial Hoop, Silks and Spanish web. She then went on to work for P&O Cruise lines as a featured dancer and aerialist where she performed in many production shows including Robert Stigwood’s Saturday Night Fever and Masquerade – a tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber. For the past two years Victoria has also performed at ‘The France Show’ in London, UK.
On graduating with distinction from the Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma at the Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in London she is a registered teacher with the RAD and has been teaching in England for the last two years. Now having emigrated to Canada she is very excited to be a part of Pantuso Dance.
Hip Hop, Modern and Jazz
Paige comes from Calgary, Alberta, where she grew up dancing in multiple disciplines. She danced competitively until graduation when she moved to Vancouver, BC, to continue her dance career. Since moving to Vancouver, she has trained with Harbour Dance Centre's ITP, Onyxx, Aviary, and has spent the last two years under the direction of Joanne Pesusich with The Source Dance company. She is passionate about dance, the history behind it, the technique, and loves being able to pass her knowledge on to aspiring young dancers.
Ballet, RAD exam program
Cami is thrilled to be joining the Pantuso faculty after training with the school since 2007. An extremely versatile dancer, her styles includes jazz, modern, lyrical, contemporary, tap, musical theatre, ballet and RAD. With Ballet as her primary focus, Cami is eagerly completing a teaching mentorship program with Royal Academy of Dance and recently received her Advanced 1 RAD Certificate. Cami is grateful for the positive impact of dance and can’t wait to share her passion with her students!
Kelly graduated from the Emily Carr College of Art & Design in Vancouver in 1994 and since then has pursed a professional career in arts education. She taught visual arts and managed dance, visual and performing arts programs in North Vancouver for ten years, before moving to the Comox Valley in 2004. Kelly is a strong advocate for giving children and youth the opportunity to develop their creativity and explore it in a safe and encouraging environment. She joined the Pantuso Dance family in 2009 and is proud to help foster the love of dance in her daughter, as well as all the Pantuso students. In her role of Pantuso Dance Program Coordinator, Kelly manages program development, office management, advertising, costumes and customer relations.
Carmen Sharpe (on Maternity Leave)
A multi-disciplined and award winning teacher, performer and choreographer, Carmen brings over 10 years teaching experience in various genres from hip hop, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, acro, tumbling, tap and ballet. Her Hip Hop classes include technique, groove, strength and dynamic choreography. She holds a Diploma in Performing Arts from Randolph Academy in Toronto as well as her level 2 gymnastics coaching certificate allowing her to share with her students a great wealth of knowledge and passion. Living in Toronto for 6 years, Carmen taught Hip Hop at various studios and moved back to Vancouver Island two years ago where she began teaching full-time at CR Dancextreme. Carmen‘s choreography has been seen at NIFPA, Nanaimo Festival, Core Dance, Synergy Dance, 5678 Showtime, Xtreme Dance Convention, Kick It Up, Bedazzled, Luv 2 Dance and she has trained with teachers such as Shawna Sloan, Buddy Mynatt, Jeff Hyslop, Carla Kama, Melissa McWilliams, Bradley Rapier, Linda Garneau, Faye Rawu, Karen Andrews, Luther Brown, Tabitha and Napolian. Carmen is very excited about working with the students at Pantuso Dance!
